The Rationale for Donor Advisory Services
To give money is an easy matter in any man’s power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man’s power nor an easy matter. Hence, it is that such excellence is rare, praiseworthy, and noble. - Aristotle (384 - 322 BC)

Charitable giving can range from donating time or money to solve immediate local problems to directing large sums of money to tackle issues on a broader scale. Whether international, regional or local, philanthropy cannot be handled on an ad hoc basis. Some donors seek the assistance and guidance of an individual or organization with experience in philanthropy-related issues. This can be prompted by a number of different scenarios: |
- A donor is unfamiliar with local issues and/or organizations actively working to address those issues;
- A donor wishes to engage more strategically, to solve the root cause of a problem; and/or
- A donor wants to learn more about an organization(s) working to address a specific problem before making a donation (sometimes the donor does this anonymousely); and/or
- A donor does not have the time or human resources to develop and manage a philanthropic initiative.
The LIN Center for Community Development can be your partner in philanthropy. Our team is available to help you shape your giving strategy, learn more about issues facing the area, or simply become more familiar with effective local not-for-profit organizations.
LIN also organizes opportunities for donors to meet and share best practices in philanthropy, examine trends, review ways in which area nonprofit organizations are addressing regional issues, and explore giving opportunities. Stay tuned for more information about our HCMC Grantmakers Forum…
